What is it about ? Watchmen takes place in the late eighties with the recent outlawing of costumed heroes. It all starts when The Comedian (aka Eddie Blake) is thrown from his apartment window the streets by an unknown assailant, one of the only remaining heroes Rorschach. As he investigates the murder he rekindles the flame of being a costumed hero with others that have either retired or gone into hiding. One of them is Nite Owl. Nite Owl retired from being a hero and now owns a mechanics shop. When Eddie Blake’s funeral is planned for the next day they find two more retired heroes, Dr. Manhattan and Adrian Vedit. Rorschach doesn’t attend but keeps a sharp eye on the crowd, leading to the interrogation of Moloch. Moloch tells Rorschach he knew all along that Blake was The Comedian ever since he told him everything about this Gag. With the world in jeopardy all heroes regroup to save the world from the Gag as well as finding who murdered Eddie Blake.
What did you think of it & why did you pick it up: This is certainly an intense read when you look at how the world would be with costumed heroes trying to keep up the law, it shows the darker side of being a super hero rather than fame and glory that these characters never received from the public. I was able to pick up this book when my big brother read it and thought the writing was really well done going with the plot twist at the end.
