This book casts a spell
Posted On: Aug 20, 2012 In: In the Spotlight, Staff PicksTessa Gratton’s new book, The Blood Keeper, will not disappoint those readers who enjoyed Blood Magic, her first book. Written in the same style and featuring some of the same characters, the story includes bringing to life a malevolent golem, lots of magical spells involving blood and salt and possession by spirits of wizards from the past. As she did in her first book, Gratton weaves the spells in such a way that readers can believe that they, too, could bring an entity made of mud and leaves and the heart of a deer to life if only they gave it a try. Gratton can certainly craft a lovely sentence and this talent is showcased best in the flashback letters that fill in bits of past history. And the local setting will be familiar to many. – Randi, Circulation
