Thanks for honoring this book with a banned book card -- I love the painting. I started reading this to my son when he was in third grade and also thought -- eek -- its violent. But the reason I wanted to read it to him was that my third grade teacher read it to my class, and it was my all-time favorite school read-aloud experience as a child. I identified with the dog's struggle, and I found the book as a whole to be a great and magical escape. The class would beg our teacher -- please read another chapter -- and she would -- and we were on the edge of our seats. So thanks for sparking this fond memory. I love the banned book trading cards and am amazed by what has been banned over the years.
