Watch and Read: Tournament of Kids’ Books

It’s the most wonderful time of the year….Tourney time.  At the library that means one thing: TOURNAMENT OF KIDS’ BOOKS! The most checked out kids’ books of last year go head-to-head, tourney style; the winner to be voted by the kids of Lawrence! Brackets are available HERE and at the library. Here is the voting schedule:

Last day to vote for the Sweet Sixteen Round — March 16

Last day to vote for the Elite Eight Round — March 23

Last day to vote for the Final Four Round — March 30

Last day to vote for the Championship Round — April 8

To get everyone excited about the first round of books, I’ve put together a gallery of book trailers of the title contenders for your viewing pleasure:

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger

 Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney

The Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch

Stone Rabbit: BC Mambo by Erik Craddock

Lunch Lady and the Bake Sale Bandit  by Jarrett Krosoczka

The Cabinet of Wonders by Marie Rutkowski

Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool

And remember kids— Only you can help your favorite book in the battle to greatness.

I am a 4th grade teacher in Texas interested in your Tournament of the books. Will you be having this event again this year?

    • Jeni says:

      Hi Julie,
We will actually be taking a hiatus this year for two reasons: 1) We are currently in a smaller, temporary location (an old Borders building) while our library building is being completely renovated! We’ll move back this summer, but with such tight space we’ve had to adjust. 2) Two of our vital children’s librarians are currently on maternity leave. They are the brains behind our Tournament of Books! Please let me know if there’s any other info you’d like or any way I can help!
