Catch-22

Artist: Molly Wetta

Banned/Challenged Book: Catch-22

Reason for Banning: Banned in the town of Strongsville, Ohio in 1972 because of language in the novel that was viewed by some as indecent.

Excerpt from Artist’s Statement: Catch-22 is a satire about the moral chaos that accompanies the horrors of war. Joseph Heller illustrates the paradox at the heart of the novel with this deceptively simple line: “anything worth living for is certainly worth dying for.” Why do people kill for what they believe in? Why bomb a nation for killing innocents and spill more innocent blood?
