Banned/Challenged Book: Where the Wild Things Are

Reason for Banning: Banned due to objections to the psychoanalytical interpretations and promoting witchcraft and supernatural elements.

Excerpt from Artist’s Statement: I chose Where the Wild Things Are because as a child I always loved the book, and was shocked to find it had been banned from a Library. I assumed the book’s main theme was Friendship because of how Max, the protagonist, was able to play and have fun with these monster type creatures. It shows how all different types of people can be friends.
