Move over, budding poets, a new poet is in the house! Karma Wilson, best known for her outstanding picture books (Bear Feels Sick, etc.) has written a delightful poetry book entitled Outside the Box. Not only is Outside the Box a very entertaining read, the illustrator is Caldecott Honor winner Diane Goode. This book has the similar feel of the ever popular Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. One of my favorite poems is titled Master Wrapper:
with five rolls of tape and some superglue,
eight kinds of paper, a great shiny bow,
glitter on top, and flowers below!
It looks so lovely, so gorgeous, so pleasant.
Oops! I forgot to put in the present.
Many more fun poems are waiting for you! Even if you are not a poetry reader, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you will enjoy this page turner.
