Book Drops
At the Lawrence Public Library, we make it easy for you to return the books and other materials you check out from the library. In addition to the drops at the library
(streetside drop for books, and side of building drop for audiovisual materials - music CDs, movie DVDs, etc.) we have three return additional return boxes located throughout
the community. Our goal is to make returning library materials easy and convenient.
Returning Materials
In addition to book and video drops at the Checkout Desk in the library, there are 24-hour book and video drops on the west side of the library (off Kentucky Street). Books
may also be returned at the library's remote locations: Hy-Vee on 6th Street, Hy-Vee on Clinton Parkway or Checkers at 23rd and Louisiana.
Solar Powered Library Return Box
Yes, that's right - solar powered. The library's newest return box at Checker's (23rd and Louisiana) has separate return bins for books and for audiovisual materials (audio
books, DVDs and CDs). The audiovisual bin is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer so that these more fragile materials are nice and cozy, and undamaged. The heating
and cooling systems are powered by solar energy. The library has collaborated with Mechanical Engineering students and faculty at the University of Kansas to design and
develop this one-of-a-kind return box. For now, the other two remote returns will not be heated and cooled, and therefore will remain as book depositories only.
