Kaw Valley Seed Fair: February 11, 2017, 9 AM – 3 PM
Douglas County Fairgrounds, Building 21, 2110 Harper St., Lawrence, KS
The Seed Fair features a seed exchange, educational exhibits and a raffle for various gardening-related prizes.

Diagnosing Plant Problems: February 15, 2017, 10 AM – 11:30 AM
A Douglas County Master Gardener program presented by Jennifer Smith. Free and open to the public; held at the the Dreher Building located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper, Lawrence, KS.

Back for its 3rd season, the LPL Seed Library will be your spot for gardening information and free vegetable, flower, and herb seeds.

Seed Starting Basics: February 20, 2017, 6 PM – 7 PM
Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont Street, Meeting Room C
February is the time to start garden transplants from seeds. Master Gardener Sandra Siebert will teach us how to begin our own transplants and more.

How Plants Grow Family Story Hour: February 22, 2017, 2:30 – 3:30 PM
Join Miss Linda at Just Food (1000 E. 11th) for stories about how plants grow, then start your own seed to take home!

City of Lawrence Compost Facility Opens for 2017: March 4 – mid-December, 10 AM – 4 PM
The City’s Wood Recovery and Compost Facility located at 1420 E. 11th Street will be open to the public on Saturdays, starting March 4th through mid-December, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Residents may drop off brush and other yard waste. Cost: $5 per pickup truck load (more for larger trucks). Cash only.
  • Residents may purchase compost or woodchips (self-load only, bring a shovel). Cost: $10 per pickup truck load (more for larger trucks). Cash only.

Beekeeping Class 2017: March 5 & 12, 2017
Interested in getting started with honey bees and beekeeping? This course covers bee equipment, bee biology and anatomy, starting your first hive, products of the hive, bee friendly vegetation, and many other honey bee related subjects. For more information, visit www.nekba.org.

Yard Waste Collection Begins: March 6, 2017
