Meet the Staff
Rebecca, Teen Zone Librarian. Born in England and raised in Vermont, Rebecca found her way to the Midwest a few years ago. After a period of adjustment which included a move from Missouri to Kansas, she fell in love, got married, and lived happily ever after. Rebecca started pretending to be a librarian at 7 years old (who needs a lemonade stand, when you have a roadside library?) and gained full librarian status just over 20 years later. If she works hard enough, she hopes to one day realize her other lifelong wish, to be able to teleport. She welcomes ideas for how to achieve this.
Karen, Teen Zone Assistant. Karen is happy to help you with your reading, homework, and computer needs. She loves to read (of course!), bake, bowl, travel, go to concerts and movies, and spend time with her family. Like Rebecca, Karen wishes she could teleport. She also wishes she had a time-turner a la Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Here are two facts and one lie about Karen. When you see her, tell her which one you think is the lie.
*Karen has received her school letter from Hogwarts.
*Karen saved her brother’s life.
*Before working at the library, Karen was a trapeze artist at the Bellagio for the Circ de Soleil.
Sarah, Teen Zone Assistant, was raised in various states/countries from Tennessee to New York to England and back to Kansas. You might hear her called Miss Sarah by Central students because she used to work in the library there. She loves to read and discuss sci fi/fantasy books, especially steampunk. Her hobbies include; arguing with her cat, gardening at the Central garden, Potlucks, karaoke, and reminding people to push in their chairs! Though she tries to eat only fresh, organic, and local foods, Sarah can not resist Peanut Butter M&Ms.;
Philip, Teen Zone Assistant, got his start with the library by helping run the monthly Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournaments. Still a child, or Teen, at heart, he plays Super Smash Bros. Brawl competitively, traveling out of state most weekend to compete in tournaments for money. He enjoys teaching the finer points of playing Brawl during his weekly sessions Wednesdays from 3-4pm. If he isn’t busy with desk work, he openly accepts challenges and remains undefeated in the Teen Zone to this day.
