NEA Big Read / Read Across Lawrence 2017
NEA Big Read 2017 is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Lawrence Public Library is one of 77 not-for-profit organizations to receive a grant to host an NEA Big Read project between September 2016 and June 2017. The NEA presents NEA Big Read in partnership with Arts Midwest. Visit our Community Page on the NEA Big Read site!
This year, adults will be reading In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. If you missed getting a complimentary paper copy, download it for free from Freading or Total Boox (requires a KS State Library eCard—sign up at Accounts—it only takes about 5 minutes.)
Read Across Lawrence 2017 for Teens and Kids is an annual month-long event where we invite everyone in the community to get on the same page by reading the same book at the same time, and then coming together at a variety of events to talk about it. This February, we’ll have an adult selection, teen selection, and a book just for kids — all with corresponding programs. Select one of the options below to learn more.
