Lawrence Public Library is receiving fewer tax forms from the IRS every year. This year, we will have a limited supply of 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms and instruction booklets available. Please consult the following for access to additional forms and tax assistance.


  • April 17, 2018: Tax return filing deadline
  • The IRS has not yet announced the date on which it will begin accepting tax returns for the coming tax season.

Kansas State Tax Forms and Publications:

Kansas Taxpayer Assistance Center: (785) 368-8222,, Scott State Office Building, 120 S.E. 10th St., Topeka, KS 66612. Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., Monday-Friday.


AARP Tax Aides are accepting appointments beginning February 1st for free tax assistance for those ages 50 and older. Call (785) 691-9737 to set up your appointment. Appointments will be held Monday-Thursday, 12pm-4pm, and Saturdays from 9am-12pm at the Lawrence Central United Methodist Church located at 1501 Massachusetts Street. This service is coordinated by the Senior Resource Center for Douglas County.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA):

  • Volunteers from Catholic Charities will be providing free basic income tax return preparation at the Lawrence Public Library for eligible individuals from January 30th-April 12th. AN APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS SERVICE. To make an appointment, contact Leslie Butsch at 785-856-2694.
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available beginning January 25th at the Docking State Office Building, 915 SW Harrison St., Room 163, in Topeka. The Docking site will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, through April 15th.
  • Each spring, law students from the University of Kansas provide free federal and state tax preparation services to those who qualify. No appointments will be scheduled. The service operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number of preparers varies with the site.
