Celebration

International LEGO Day

Special guests from KC Brick Lab will be setting up a LEGO® city for our brick-tastic party in honor of the 59th anniversary of the Lego brick!

Families with kids ages 5-11 can join us on Saturday, Jan 28 from 1-3 PM in the Auditorium.

We’ll build LEGO® models for our bookshelf display, play LEGO® games, shoot photos at our LEGO® photo booth, make LEGO® crafts, give out LEGO® prizes and more!

Summer Reading Closing Ceremonies (aka PARTY!)

Summer Readers! You’ve impressed us with hours of reading, exercising, and learning this summer, and we want to celebrate your success—so, let’s party!

We’re getting together Thursday, August 4 from 6-8 PM for all-ages festivities on the Library Lawn.

See who’s going!

With the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this year, we’re featuring a spectacular Brazilian martials arts group, Axé Capoeira Kansas City, who promises to bring high energy and Brazilian culture, music, and dance! Come out for family fun, crafts, light snacks, and beverages.

LPL is so proud of every kid, teen, and adult who exercised their minds and finished Summer Reading. Great work, everyone!

Visit the Grupo Axé Capoeira website to learn more about this amazing art form.

Celebration + Thanks Parade!

TUE | Apr 12 | 5 PM | Library Lawn

National Library Week is April 10-16 and we’re rallying library supporters for a walk to City Hall to say “thank you” for our wonderful library!

As if it couldn’t get any better, Michael and Morris the Monkey from our ridiculously popular Toddler Storytime will play music for our stroll! So, wear your library t-shirt, make a sign telling the City why you love your library, and we’ll provide the flags (red with white dots, of course!) Once we arrive at City Hall, there will be a brief, 5-minute presentation of the library’s annual report and a proclamation from our Mayor.

Help rally support with our Facebook event!
