DNA for Genealogists

Have you had your DNA tested and puzzled over the results?

On Wednesday, DEC 6 from 6:30–8 PM, KU researcher Dr. Kristine G. Beaty will be here to discuss how biological anthropologists use DNA to better understand human populations, and explore the pros and cons of using your genome to understand your history, identity, and health. Meet up in the Auditorium and bring questions about your own DNA results!

Dinovember with the KU Natural History Museum

On November  16 from 4-5 PM, join the KU Natural History Museum for a look at how dinosaurs walk, use their claws and are named in the Auditorium. They will update us on their progress in bringing a T. rex back to KU and you can try your hand at fossil casting! Register at 843-3833.

STEAM: Sparkology

On Wednesday, September 28th from 4PM to 5PM, join SPARK from KU School of Engineering in the Library Auditorium for some hands on engineering experience ! This program is for ages 7-11 and space is limited. Call 843-3833 to register or sign up at the Children’s Desk.

Kids’ Behavioral Wellness Fair

Join us for a day of fun and information on Saturday, September 17th from 9am to 1pm in the Auditorium! The KU Child and Family Services Clinic will offer helpful resources for parents, free mental and behavioral health screenings for kids of all ages, and information about support services. Kids can visit fun, free activity booths to learn mindfulness and relaxation strategies. Screenings are not treatment or assessment and are non-diagnostic; topics include developmental concerns, attention and hyperactivity, disruptive behaviors, and mood and anxiety issues. This program is FREE and for ages 2-17, accompanied by a guardian.

Exploratorium: Guinness Book of World Records Day

MON | June 27 | 2-3 PM | Ages 7-11 | Auditorium

Athletes from KU and beyond will join us to talk about competitors who push themselves to their limits! We’ll explore extreme records, try to break some, and play a few wacky games. Registration required. Call (785) 843-3833 or register in person at the Children’s Desk.

We’ll kick off Exploratorium with tips from Jeff Hawkins, former KU basketball player (he’ll even stay to shoot hoops with us)! Then Parks & Recreation instructors will lead us in Zumba, yoga, and stretching!
