SWAT Book Club Meeting

This month SWAT Book Club will be talking about The Sharp Time by local author, Mary O’Connell. Get in the mood by listening to the classic punk rock album Sandinista! by The Clash which was the inspiration for the main character’s name. You might also want to check out some of our favorite cupcake books (just don’t dye your frosting green the way Erica does).

When: Thursday, November 15th
Where: Library Gallery
Time: 6:00-7:00 PM

Teen Book Club: Perks of Being a Wallflower

This month SWAT book club is discussing Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky. The story of a introspective young man who finds his place among an eclectic group of friends is told through a series of letters.

Charlie is an avid reader who devours such classics as The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Not only does literature play an important role in Charlie’s letters, but he’s also very into making mix tapes. Check out a playlist of some of the songs Charlie mentions in the books. Charlie and his friends also regularly perform in a live version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, cult classic musical.

Teen Book Club meets Thursday, October 25th, at 6 pm in the Library Gallery.

We’re starting a teen book club! Are you passionate about books? Would you like to discuss what you’ve read with other teens that love books? Then come to our first meeting!

When: Thursday, September 20
Time: 6:00 pm
Where: Lawrence Public Library Gallery

At the first meeting you can pick up your copy of our first month’s selection, Perks of Being a Wallflower, a classic coming-of-age novel about a shy teen boy, told in the form of letters that read more like diary entries.

We will also discuss:

A name for our book club
Best dates and times for future meetings
Books we’ll read in the future
